Board of Advisors 2012
For the 2nd Edition of Doctors 2.0 & You in 2012, we have renewed our Ambassadors from last year with a Global Advisory Board
composed of national boards.
The Board comprises a mixture of patients and doctors, institutions and industry, some with both a national and a world perspective – all experts in their fields and all with a desire to advance the Healthcare Social Media and 2.0 movements.

Michaela Endemann – @wissit
Austria – Dr. Michaela Endemann is a biologist and communication strategist in Vienna, Austria. As a scientist, Michaela Endemann has a basic understanding of critical issues in healthcare communications, helps to translate difficult scientific themes into understandable words and distinguishes between advertising/marketing and PR. She founded her own consultancy WISSIT to help physicians and healthcare related companies understand and use digital communication for the benefit of patients.
Pat Rich – @cmaer
Canada - Pat Rich is director and editor-in-chief of Online Content for the Canadian Medical Association. He also serves as editor of Future Practice, the CMA’s magazine helping inform and educate physicians about information technology. A medical writer and editor for more than 25 years, Pat also provides web updates and tweets from many major medical and health IT related conferences for the CMA. Before joining the CMA in 2001, Pat was editor of The Medical Post, the largest Canadian publication for physicians.
Catherine Cerisey – @cathcerisey
France – Catherine Cerisey learned she had breast cancer in the year 2000 and again in 2002 but has been in remission since 2002. She blogs at “après mon cancer du sein” about breast cancer news, charitable initiatives, current research. Catherine works with lamaisonducancer.com and is currently participating in the launch of a new, free magazine for women who are ill.
Alain Clergeot – @alainclergeot
France – Alain Clergeot, MD and MBA (HEC), was a hospital physician in Gabon and Cameroon before joining the pharmaceutical industry in 1985, with Schering-Plough and subsequently BMS. Alain has risen in the ranks of Chugai pharmaceutical company since 1998 and is now both head of European operations and the French affiliate. And, last but not least, Alain is a talented blogger, devoted to the health system.
Raphaëlle Laubie – @raphaellelaubie
France – Raphaëlle Laubie stands out for her unusual career as a former engineer, a model who liked marketing, and manager of an Aerospace group. Raphaëlle Laubie is currently a Health 2.0 Serial entrepreneur. Through this activity, she is developing Eugenol, the dental community, PagesMed, a health professionals directory and SmallRegistry. Raphaëlle is currently researching Patient behavior in online communities.
Alex Schachinger – @healthcare42
Germany – Alexander Schachinger an Austrian in Berlin, is specialized in “e-patient” research and producing some of Europe’s most original data. After studying digital media economy in Berlin and Toronto, he worked both in international pharma companies and digital advertising agencies. In Germany he conducts e-patient and digital healthcare online studies, some of which will be presented at Doctors 2.0.
Len Starnes – @lenstarnes
Germany – Len Starnes is an internationally recognized pharma thought leader in e-business. With 14 years of experience in this field, Len led global e-business for Bayer Schering Pharma’s Primary Care business unit. Physician communities, social media policy, multi-channel marketing in Europe, Asia, and America are just some of his areas of expertise. Len was previously based in Paris as head of corporate communications for Raychem Corporation and in London with the public affairs department of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry. Len is a physicist and MBA, by training, with degrees from BU, Manchester University, and UCL.
Kathi Apostolidis – @kgapo
Greece – Kathi Apostolidis (@kgapo) is a Voluntary Sector Consultant and a Health Commentator. She is a two-time breast cancer survivor and a believer in the power of the internet and social media, as education and connection tools in healthcare. Kathi is interested in the ethical aspects of breast cancer, health and healthcare, and she speaks, writes and blogs at http://epatientgr.wordpress.com about participatory medicine, patient rights, informed shared decision making, health technology assessment, social media in healthcare, e-health, innovation in healthcare, e-patients and health literacy. Κathi is actively involved with cancer patient organizations in Greece and internationally.
Bertalan Mesko – @berci
Hungary – Bertalan Meskó or Berci, one of the most influential physicians on Twitter, is the founder of Webicina.com, the first medical web 2.0 guidance service. A medical graduate of the University of Debrecen, Berci is pursuing his PhD in personalized genomics. Berci thinks medical professionals of the 21st century have to be ready to meet the expectations of e-patients: he is a medical blogger, a microblogger, a manager of medical projects in Wikipedia and an organizer of scientific events in Second Life.
Yossi Bahagon – @ybahagon
Israel – Dr. Yossi Bahagon founded Clalit Health Services (CHS) e-Health wing. CHS is the largest HMO in Israel and second largest world-wide. The e-Health wing leads next generation, digital-based, patient-centered care services, focusing on deepening patient involvement in managing health through digital interactive tools, personalized to the individual. Dr. Bahagon is an entrepreneur with 10 year of leadership-experience in Bio-Medical Informatics and Health Information Sciences. He also serves as a Family Physician and as a lecturer in the fields of e-Health, Evidence-Based Medicine and Medical Informatics at the Hebrew University Hadassah and the Ben-Gurion Medical Schools.
Roberto Ascione – @robertoascione
Italy – A trained physician and marketing specialist from Italy, Roberto founded his first company in 1996 as Healthware Consulting to provide health informatics services. By 2007, the company then the Healthware Group, was acquired by Publicis, and aligned under PHCG (Publicis Healthcare Communications Group) as the largest, health-oriented agency network in the world. Roberto is also a Board Member of Research and Education Organizations: Oncotech (Oncology), BioGene (post Genomics and Bioinformatics), Bio Ricerche 2010 (Biotechnology).
Giovanna Marsico – @giomarsi

Italy – A former lawyer in Milan, Italy and representative to the European Commission in Brussels for various associations, Giovanna is responsible for the citizen pole of Cancer Campus, a permanent laboratory for innovative practices in healthcare. The citizen pole analyzes and anticipates on the cancer experience for the individual and Society.
Janine Budding – @medicalfacts
Netherlands – Janine Budding is Managing Director of MedicalFacts and she is a Dutch medical journalist and publisher. Janine has been a active promotor and ambassador for health 2.0 and eHealth. Janine began to promote eHealth in healthcare in the Netherlands since 2005. She is an active member for of the NVEH Dutch Association for eHealth, focusing on business modeling, raising eHealth awareness of HCPs, and Patient Self management and Health 2.0. since 2006.
Rob Halkes – @rohal
Netherlands – Rob Halkes has been a consultant in health care business development for 20 years, and was prior to that a lecturer at TIlburg University. His areas of expertise are strategy and innovation and include specific experience in medical technology, telemedicine, and social media. With concepts like Care for Health, Experience Co-Creation in Care, Integrated Care, Participatory Care and Social Care, he shares his knowledge on provision of care to improved outcomes, trusted relations with care providers and self management of patients.
Jorge Juan Fernandez Garcia – @jorgejuan
Spain – Jorge Juan Fernández is Director of eHealth & Health 2.0 at Hospital San Juan de Dios of Barcelona, the leading Spanish children’s hospital in Spain, one of the top 5 in Europe, and the reference point in Health 2.0 in Spain. Jorge Juan has a decade of international healthcare consulting expertise in e-Health and Health 2.0. He is also the author of “Las reglas de juego”, an updated and expanded version of a free digital e-book that has been downloaded by more than 425.000 people, the most downloaded eBook in the history of Spanish Internet.
Angel Gonzalez – @angel189
Spain – Advertising practitioner with 30 years of experience, the last 13 years in the Healthcare sector. He has been co-President of Publicis Healthcare Spain, heading the Madrid office by managing its change and bringing innovation to lead it to being “the reference of the market on a global scale”. Afterwards, he joined the Madrid office of Global Healthcare as partner and managing director with the responsibility of re-launching it onto the market. In January 2009, Angel set up Ideagoras, the first fully independent Social Media in Healthcare company established in Spain. He was the founder of #hcsmeuES, leading the tweet-chats during its first year.
Silja Chouquet – @whydotpharma
Switzerland – Silja is the owner and CEO of whydot GmbH, an agency specialized in social media consulting, coaching and training. Her fields of expertise are the creation of patient-focused social media communications and marketing campaigns. Previously, Silja was a consultant and held senior positions in major pharmaceutical companies. She holds a BS in International Business and Marketing from Georgetown University in Wash. DC and an MBA from INSEAD. Silja speaks German, English and French.
Felix Jackson – @felixjackson
United Kingdom – A graduate of the London Hospital Medical School 2000 and member of the Royal College of Anaesthetists 2004, Felix Jackson is co-founder and Medical Director of medCrowd (Doctors 2.0 & You start-up finalist 2011). Felix is also specialized as a Digital Pharmaceutical Medic offering training and consultancy on how to apply the Codes and Regulations, with experience both as a Senior Medical Advisor to GlaxoSmithKline, and as an editor for Doctors.net.Uk.
Larry Chu – @larrychu
USA - Larry Chu is a practicing physician who runs the Anesthesia Informatics and Media (AIM) lab at Stanford University. He is an Associate Professor of Anesthesia on the faculty of the Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Chu organized the Fourth World Congress on Social Media and Web 2.0 in Health, Medicine and Biomedical Research (Medicine 2.0 @ Stanford) in 2011. He is the Executive Director of Stanford Medicine X, a conference that aims to explore how emerging technologies will advance the practice of medicine, improve health, and empower patients to be active participants in their own care. When not organizing conferences, Dr. Chu studies how information technologies can be used to improve medical education and collaborates with researchers in simulation and computer science at Stanford to study how cognitive aids can improve health care outcomes. Dr. Chu also has an NIH-funded clinical research laboratory where he studies opioid analgesic tolerance and physical dependence.
John Mack – @pharmaguy
USA – John Mack is Publisher and Editor of Pharma Marketing News, an independent monthly electronic newsletter focused on issues of importance to pharmaceutical marketing executives. John Mack’s Pharma Marketing Blog was cited by the Wall Street Journal as a blog “insiders read to stay current” and by MedAdNews as “…often-entertaining, always informative…” John Mack has an MA, MS, MPhil.
Lawrence Sherman – @meducate
USA – Lawrence Sherman is Senior Vice President, Educational Strategy at Prova Education, an affiliate of The Omnia-Prova Education Collaborative, an ACCME-accredited provider. Having been involved in medical education for over 17 years, Lawrence has worked for: Jobson Education, Health Science Communications, Physicians World Communications Group, CoMed Communication/Vox Medica, and Strategic Implications International. He is a Certified Instructor Coordinator in Emergency Medicine for the Center for Learning and Innovation of the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System in Long Island, NY. He frequently lectures around the world on CME and medical education. Last but not least: Lawrence was once a stand-up comedian in New York.
